CHIPPENHAM head coach Danny Thomas has saluted the Allington Field squad for their perfect start to the league season.

The Wiltshire men completed their second five-point haul of the season as they saw off Windsor last Saturday.

Thomas’ side were relegated from National Three South West at the end of last season but have made the perfect start to their bid to regain their status, following their opening-weekend triumph at local rivals Trowbridge.

A brace of tries each from Jake Meadows and Nick Aston wrapped up the bonus-point success as they made their home debut for the campaign, leaving Thomas thrilled.

“Ten points from 10 is really pleasing, so it’s been a very good start,’’ said Thomas.

“It was a tough game for us because Windsor were coming off a good result themselves and we knew it was going to be difficult.

“They played some decent rugby in the first 20 minutes, but our defence held firm and once we got control of the game we started to play well.’’ He added: “We’ve been getting into a bit of the unknown this season because we are playing teams we have not been familiar with.

“It’s taken a bit of time to re-galvanise after last season, but the boys have been brilliant in training and we are utilising the squad very well.

“We made nine changes last week, positional and personnel, so to play like we did was very positive.’’ Windsor lost Chris Laidler to a broken cheekbone and missed a number of early penalties before Chippenham scored a couple of tries before half time, Sam Saunders adding a conversion.

Aston touched down again after half time and a pushover score from Meadows and another Saunders conversions wrapped up the victory.
