Swindon Town v Oldham Athletic

Jonathan Obika marked his return to the red of Swindon with two great goals before half time to give the Town their first – of many, hopefully – league win of the season on the road.

It’s early days still, but Swindon are sitting pretty at the right end of the table and I feel that they are gathering momentum. Yes, there will be set backs and we will lose a few, but all in all things are looking good.

Over the years, Town have played Oldham 46 times in the league and have chalked up 16 wins, 12 draws and 18 defeats. There have been many players that have had links with both clubs. Fraser Digby, Brian Kilcline, Sam Parkin and Steve Mildenhall to name a few. Players that are still active include Anton Rodgers, Adam Rooney, last Saturday’s villain Alan Sheehan and Leon Clarke. Mind you Leon Clarke’s name will crop up many times to this question.

Last season’s fixture was a very dire performance by the Town in all departments, resulting in The Latics getting the only goal of the match on 73 mins. To cap it all, making his first appearance for 15 months, Troy Archibald-Henville was sent off in the dying minutes after picking up a second yellow.

This season, I feel the result will be rather different with the Town being triumphant on the night.
