Wootton Bassett's men bounced back from the disappointment of missing last year’s play-offs to book a place in the 2014 Wiltshire Four Rink League final.

They thumped Swindon West End 94-60 in the quarter-final at Purton and had a 77-61 victory over Westlecot in the semi-final  at Swindon Bowling Club.

Wootton Bassett led 15-14 at five ends, 37-32 at ten and only 52-50 at 15 in a tight game. But they powered to a 67-55 lead at 18 ends and extended it to a winning margin of 16 shots.

Bassett won on three of the four rinks to book a place in Sunday’s final at Devizes against Holt, who beat Amesbury 79-64.

Rink 2: Dave Godwin beat D Richards 20-12; Rink 3: Dave Snell beat D Watson 27-12; Rink 4: Neil Smith lost to M Sawyer 18-25; Rink 5: Gary Morphet beat R Wood 29-11.

Semi-final: Wootton Bassett 77 Westlecot 61 . Rink 3: D Snell beat R Sowden 21-16; Rink 4: N Smith lost to G Hatherall 10-19; Rink 5: Steve Snell beat I Jefferies 22-9; Rink 6: G Morphet beat M Biggs 24-17.

Wootton Bassett’s Gary Morphet, a national champion of champions quarter-finallist, crashed out of the Wiltshire champion of champions competition 21-10 to Tom Pittuck (Town Gardens).

In the other semi-final Paul Beazer (Corsham) beat Trowbridge Town’s Dave Betteridge 21-12.

Chippenham Park’s Roy Delehaye, Gerald Tinson and Martyn Whittaker had a comfortable 22-12 semi-final win in the o60s triples against Spencer Melksham.

Chippenham Town’s Walter Donald, Willie Jones and Chris Brown lost the other semi-final 19-8 against Purton.

Chippenham Town’s Jim Dix was successful in the unbadged singles quarter and semi-finals, beating Tom Pittuck 21-13 and Mathew Webster (Westlecot) 21-11 to  face Ashley Plumb (Amesbury) in the final.
