Town boss wants three more players

SWINDON Town boss Mark Cooper says that he would like to bring in three more players ahead of their trip to Bradford City in a fortnight’s time.

Although the transfer window slams shut this evening, Cooper knows that the emergency loan window will open in seven days giving him plenty of time to get his squad in shape.

Over the course of the summer, Cooper has managed to draft in defenders Brad Smith, Josh Lelan and Jordan Turnbull as well as midfielders Anton Rodgers and Jake Reeves, all for varying lengths of time.

While an injury crisis is hovering over SN1 presently, a patched up squad managed a 1-1 draw with Coventry on Saturday. Again the Town chief says that he won’t make any rash decisions when attempting to inject fresh blood into the squad.

“You’ve seen that the depth of the squad is not enough,” Cooper told the Advertiser. “In League One there are going to be spells when you are going to play Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday depending on cup runs and things like that.

“If we stay as we are ,we are not going to have enough players, so it is important that we recruit.

“We won’t just sign anyone because we are desperate for a player – they have to fit in to our financial structure and fit in to how we do things. I think that we would need at least two, maybe three.”

Despite knowing that the squad is stretched to the limit, the Town chief was light-hearted when asked what would constitute good day’s shopping.

He joked: “I want a loaf of bread, two tins of beans.

“No listen we are hopeful of getting a couple of players in so let’s see what happens.”

Cooper did manage to strengthen his squad prior to Saturday’s draw in bringing back Lelan for another month from Derby County, while Reeves has signed a short-term deal until January following his release from Brentford.

On the Reeves signing Cooper said: “He has been on our radar because he wasn’t featuring at Brentford.

“He fits into the way that we play, he is technically very good and a good little footballer.”

Since the majority of our incomings are likely to be loans, it's not a disaster if we don't get people in today with the loan window opening soon. Would be nice to get a couple though.

More pressing may be keeping hold of cooper. Leeds are interested according to the daily mail

This rest period should give the depleted squad time to mend and get some R&R.as for new players quite right with the emergency ruling and the likelyhood incoming players will e on loan theres no rush.Seen highlights of sat game and yes was yet another mistake. Is frutrating however these young players as MC said aint playing badly, only time experience and game time will sort these costly errors out
As for Daily Mail you must feel foe Dave Hockaday mind you expect he will get quite a severence package,MC no think it is paper talk, as Wes going to cardiff(well hope it¨s paper talk) unless it is a good deal for STFC LP will not sanction any silly deals(we think)

You can see why Leeds may be showing an interest in MC ....he's a good manager and does what he's told. You'd still think he had more of a future at a Swindon though.

Power is willing to spend 200k on Obika and 200k on Smith so we cant be as poor as we thought.

Great glad were not broke and can actually afford to buy someone.
I totally understand where Lee Power is coming from we need more fans through the turnstyles to create;
A, a better atmosphere, to maybe send the message that match days is more enjoyable,
B, more income for the current board,
C show potential investors we are well supported and encourage them to join.

Didnt we have Obika here a while ago? I seem to remember him always scoring for Yeovil, then we got him with high expectations only to be left feeling deflated. I may be wrong.
200K for Smith, is that Brad Smith? That has a good deal written all over it.

the jockster - your wrong im afraid Obika is on his way and how do you know our path is blocked at Spurs? weve helped them out with their players pregressing as Pritchard and Hall are now with championship clubs.
Someone else guessing at who we can deal with.

As for all the neagatives on here people need to wake up and realise what a fantastic job MC is doing at the club he has got a group of young players together playing some great passing football and for those that dont understand properly we play the way we play as teams know we are good in possession which is why they defend in numbers so we have to be patient to make the breakthrough. Yes we have given some poor goals away but we have no team to fear in this league and they all respect the way we play. I would rather watch the way we are playing now rather than hoof ball as alot of lower league sides play.
I dont know what some of you want half of the moaners on here probably never go to games anyway.
With another defender as an addition and Obika coming in it makes the squad alot stronger to make a bid to make the play offs this season which is what we all want.
Sammy Hypia at Brighton was surprised how well we played last week so i think a few more moaners on here need to start praising MC and the players more rather than the constant knocking but to me those that keep moaning dont understand football properly anyway.

BBC Wiltshire understands Swindon's Louis Thompson is being sold to Norwich but will be loaned back to Town for the rest of the season. The transfer fee is understood to be £600,000 rising to £1.3m.
We're also expecting Tottenham striker Jon Obika to join the Robins for around £200,000.

A great shame if Louis goes but not bad money. Hope we get a sell on.

I was thinking we may see a player go as the model means developing players then selling at a profit.

Perhaps Power has retained links with Norwich to an extent, we got Murphy on loan last season now this.

Obika well we need a striker, he's a couple of years more developed than when he was first here. 11 loan spells but maybe settling down at a club will help him. 1 in 5 overall, 1 in 4 at Yeovil at League 1 where he was maybe a bit more settled. Obviously recommended by Sherwood too. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sherwood end up managing Swindon at some point while Power's in charge.

A great shame to lose Louis Thompson, but these things will happen. I just hope we negotiate a sell-on and don't get shatt on as we did with Matt Ritchie. And reinvest some of the funds wisely.

Obika - no thanks. Not even on a free.

Cooper - I'm not surprised clubs are interested. He's committed to playing passing football and the team has received many plaudits from opposing managers. As to Dirty Leeds… well he could get his calculator out, assume he's there for 7-8 games, and make sure he negotiates a good severance package.

Maybe Leeds will loan Cooper back to us?

If Louis is worth £600 - £1.3k what does that make Mass and Kasim worth.....

I was watching the Leicester v Arsenal game yesterday, Cazorla's game was so similar to Kasim's, who has to be worth some serious money surely.

totally agreee, Leeds would be professional suicide for any manager. Cellino had 36 managers at Calgari in 22 years - that's like more than one a year!!!

A sell / loan back deal for Louis is ideal as he is going to move upwards sooner rather than later and we will have him for the season.plus I would imagine there will be a sell on clause.
