TOWN boss Mark Cooper is down to the bare bones of his squad for Saturday’s visit of Coventry.

The League Cup defeat to Brighton on Tuesday was costly, with no less than four players ending the game injured. Ben Gladwin sustained torn ankle ligaments, Michael Smith damaged his shoulder, as did George Barker and Andy Williams has pulled a muscle in his back.

Cooper refused to be down beaten by the injury crisis though and said he saw little point in moaning about it.

Assessing the situation on his treatment table he said: “Ben (Gladwin) is going to be six to eight weeks minimum. Michael Smith and George Barker are being scanned today at lunchtime, because of the swelling they’ve had to wait to today.

“Michael Smith is the least likely to be fit, he’s got what looks like a real bad shoulder injury. George is a little bit easier but he’ll do well to play as well. Andy Williams has got a pulled muscle in his back so all of them are real big doubts for Saturday.

“I don’t want to get too down about the injuries because that’s part of football. Even if we don’t sign anybody it will give some of the young boys an opportunity to play in the first team which is fantastic.

“It’s what happens on the pitch, it doesn’t matter how many injuries you’ve got. If your players are up for it and there’s are not quite right it becomes an even game.”

Át Last the Penney has dropped our depleated squad has an additional 4 more injured.as Fans these things happen, however when you look at the severe budget cuts/high earners leaving gates(OKare down) this sat will be a testing time for the Kids.Savings were neccessary as Dicannio cost the club a fortune and a rich Board.
It is becomiming a joke, you cannot tell me STFC cannot go out and take 4/5 loans for a month to help out.Never mind the tippy tappy Football STFC needs to survive in division 1.

Certainly up against it but this team has real heart and guts, they fight to the end and don't roll over. When you see how bad Michael Smith's injury is, it makes the incredible game against Brighton all the more amazing. Financially we are where we are and must cut our cloth accordingly. Cooper has a brilliant attitude, can you imagine Di Canio faced with the same situation? Waldon looked a fantastic prospect when he came on againt Brighton, quick, excellent control, aggressive and great positional sense. He looked like he had the best qualities of Smith and Williams and much more besides. If he gets a run in the team Williams and Smith will have a real fight to get a place back. COYMR.

The more I read of this guy's work the more depressed about the Adver I get.

'If your players are up for it and there’s are not quite right it becomes an even game.'

There's??? I'll convert that to their's then.

'No less than four players out' should read 'no fewer than four players out'.

'Refused to be down beaten'? What's that all about?

In another piece today, he refers to agents fees and says they are 'down £89,741, a drop of almost £40,000'.

So, is that down BY £89,741, a drop TO almost £40,000? Or down TO £89,471, a drop OF almost £40,000?

Where's Sam Morshead gone? He can write!

And there was me thinking sitting 6th after dominating every team we have played this season that we might be alright this season but I bow to your superior knowledge of a team you have not even watched and have written off on the hearsay of a few other doom mongers who dont go either.

and for info I will see 5 games this season and have spent way over 3-000 pounds on flights/match tickets. What some of you forget we all have an opinion rifht or wron so come on give me a Minus 200 i don¨t give a s--t just lokk at the current situation at the CG this is for you Lambourne RED and since Dec 1961 I dread to think like many of us the amount we have spent supporting the TOWN so think before you comment on true supporters even if they live overseas question will you spend 3000 pounds plus this season???? maybe you wil ha ha ha back for a walk and a rum and coke on the beach to calm me down

ARTIST : I too have to stifle groans as I cant fail to spot so many Adver slip-ups ! I guess Sam`s replacement is probably here to stay for a while so we have to get used to his style.

Totally agree, I normally cut journos a bit of slack as it's easy to make the odd mistake, but I have to say this guy can hardly write English. Whoever thought he should make a career from the written word has a lot to answer for. Has Sam moved on or been removed from STFC work owing to the well-documented fall out?

This is poor quality fare from the Town's local newspaper.
