Turnbull: 'Me and Jack could be valuable assets'

JORDAN Turnbull thinks a partnership of himself and Jack Stephens could be a great asset to Swindon Town.

Turnbull, much like Stephens at the end of last season, has impressed since coming on-loan from Southampton as part of Town’s defensive unit. The 19-year-old Wiltshire boy, from Trowbridge, looks comfortable with the ball at at his feet and not been phased by any strike force he has faced so far.

The rumours about Turnbull’s friend and fellow Southampton youth team graduate Stephens have rumbled on through pre-season and the first few weeks of the new term. An appearance on the bench in the Saint’s first game against Liverpool and again on Tuesday night against Millwall, albeit without making it on to the pitch, suggest, for now, Stephens is in Ronald Koeman’s plans. Last week Town boss Mark Cooper even admitted the club were going to start looking at other targets.

Though the injury and suspension mini-crisis created by Tuesday’s League Cup defeat to Brighton could force Swindon’s hand and after that game Turnbull said he thought Stephens and himself would make a great partnership.

Asked whether he would like to see Stephens join him at the County Ground he said: “Yeah, you know it’s not for me to decide. Me and Jack are great pals you know, it would make a great asset to the club.

“Of course I keep in close contact (with Southampton) they’re always asking how I’m doing. Jack especially, as he’s a great pal of mine, I was speaking to him a lot before I came here because he was here last season. He gave good account of the club and I’m really enjoying it.”

Excellent point South Stand, and its looking increasingly unlikely he will be joining us but fingers crossed as he would be worth the wait 👍.

Scoop of the century - Turnball would like to see his pal Stephens come to Swindon!

On a serious note Stephens is exactly the type of signing Power needs to make to maybe get a few more fans back to the CG - a recognised decent player.

Just 48 hours to the Coventry game....clock is ticking Mr Power

Ok as I like a punt what odds will the doom Sayers give me on Stephens coming here for at least part of the season? 50/1? 100/1 or something like 5000-1 like Elvis landing on the moon. It's definitely not happening so presumably someone will take this bet?!

The story almost makes it sound like something's happening to get Stephens here, but it depends on the context - likelihood is the Adver's just asked the question rather than anyone at the club bringing it up. Must admit when I read the headline I got all excited and thought Stephens had already signed - however the comments from Turnbull now make it seem unlikely.

It just seeme like a random story with no real substance behind it. With the injuries and suspensions I felt we needed a signing today or yesterday to at least have ONE training session. How can we leave it to cob tomorrow and expect someone to be integrated into our way of playing/comfortable with the system. Although they have faith in the youngsters I just dont think they are physical enough to cope with League one. Coventry have that massive Reda Johnson in their back four and could see him kicking Waldon for example all over the park. Financial sustainability is absolutely important but with the current situation I think it is absolutely vital to get one or two bodies in or the early promise of the season could quickly evaporate.

Grim fair play to you at least you made me laugh! My point is no one on here has a clue including at top of list me. Just bored of all gloom. Not reasoned doubts just this is rubbish that is rubbish. It's obvious to everyone we are short of numbers but the idea they are not trying is ridiculous.

But even if it's in the emergency window I still think we might get him after all!

Yeah another 2000 attending on each of the home games would have given us extra cash to splash, if only smirg had brought all his friends ( and paid for them ) we could have bought our way our of the temporary crisis.

No game for 2 weeks after Saturday, so hopefully some will recover in time for that.
