TOWN boss Mark Cooper is prepared to wait until the very last minute on transfer deadline day to secure the signings he needs - if he has to.

Jordan Turnbull’s loan move was the last confirmed piece of activity at the club more than two weeks ago, in which time Town have played four fixtures and already had their small squad tested by injury and suspension.

Admitting that his numbers are very thin in terms of first team players, Cooper stressed he is not going to just sign any player if he does not feel they are right for the balance of his side.

“We know we need more depth in the squad. We know that we’ve got a really small squad in terms of frontline players. We’re aware we have to add to that very quickly,” he said.

“We’ve got to make sure we get the right players in. If we have to wait to the last minute to do that then we’ll wait, because it’s important to get the right type of player in.

“Something will have to happen, something will, because we won’t have enough players to get us through.”

Cooper also commented that he would not start changing his transfer policies to fill short-term gaps left by the international call-ups of Brad Smith and Massimo Luongo.

“We’re not going to damage the whole (transfer) structure for one game. It’s a 46 game minimum season, so for one game it would seem, to me, silly to bring players in to their (Luongo and Smith’s) positions.”

The Swindon chief is not worried about attracting the kind of players he wants to the County Ground. Again he made the point that Town’s style is favourable with the people in charge at the clubs of potential targets.

“The younger players want to come and join us because of the way do things and the way we play. More so, their managers and coaches want them to come to us because they know they’ll be playing the right way.”
