SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper has branded his side’s Capital One Cup second-round tie against Brighton & Hove Albion as “one for the purists”.

Town’s reward for beating Luton Town 2-1 at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night is the chance to host the Championship Seagulls in a League Cup match for the second time in three seasons.

On the last occasion the two teams met, the Robins romped home to a 3-0 victory in a first-round clash and, while hoping for a similar result, Cooper is anticipating a free-flowing feast of football.

“Brighton are similar to us. It will be one for the purists, hopefully,” he said.

“We’re at home, it’s a good game for us. It’s probably against a team that have started to go down a similar route to ourselves but are maybe a couple of years in front in terms of the structure of how they want to play.

“They’ve brought in Gus Poyet and then (Oscar) Garcia and now another foreign manager (Sami Hyypia), so they’ve got a structure in place to play good football. They’re trying to bring young players through. It should be a really exciting game.

“If we’re still going well by the time the game comes around hopefully there’ll be a few people there.”
