ON-LOAN defender Josh Lelan will not be available to manager Mark Cooper when Swindon Town visit Luton Town in the first round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

Derby County, the centre back's parent club, have not given Town permission to field the teenager, Cooper confirmed to the local media today.

It means the Swindon boss is likely to bring Raphael Branco into his three-man defence to partner Nathan Thompson and Jordan Turnbull, unless he completes the signing of Southampton's Jack Stephens before the trip to Kenilworth Road.

Thought he did well considering he was up against an experienced Scunthorpe attack

Sorry but he was terrible yesterday, first half did not win header and for much game looked out of his depth. Hes young and inexperienced and in fairness he improved second half but Branco is twice the player, a solid simple CB. Lelan needs some heading practice, I wish him best but needs to step up.

Branco is one of my favourite players, so quite happy to read this.

Branco had a nervous first half debut, but improved, I think Josh did OK and can only get better. The goal we conceded was down to Nat Thompson not winning his header and allowing the flick on to Madden. A bit unfair to judge a youngster on his debut for not winning headers when someone with Thompson's experience can make mistakes and no comments are rarely made about giving away penalties or the number of yellows he picks up. Don't get me wrong I like Nat, but the point I am trying to make is they defend as a unit and are equally at fault if they don't defend properly.

However I do agree with you, Josh should be behind Branco for selection and I also think if Stephens arrived in time for Crawley the chances of Josh getting a starting place in his months loan are going to be limited. Either way I doubt once we are up to strength we will keep him, but hope his stay at STFC has been an enjoyable one.
