CALLUM Buglass cannot wait to get started for Swindon Wildcats after joining the club on a two-way with Elite League giants Cardiff Devils.

The 18-year-old D-man will arrive at the Link Centre after attracting the eye of head coach Ryan Aldridge last term.

Buglass, who played 59 games over the course of last season, was the Welsh side’s under 18s captain as well as winning a place in the Great Britain under 18s team.

And Aldridge is backing his new signing to make the grade in the English Premier League.

The head coach said: “He has bags of ability and really wants to learn and improve himself which is great for any coach to see.

“He’ll fit in really well with what we’re doing here so I couldn’t be more pleased with his arrival.

“With his addition we’ve got another youngster in our roster who has bags of skill and the enthusiasm to match - he’s a player with a very bright future ahead of him.”

And on joining Cats, the teenager is expecting big things for the Link Centre side for the up-coming campaign.

Buglass said: “When Jamie (Elson - one of the coaches at the Cardiff Devils) told me that the Wildcats were interested in taking me there, I couldn’t wait to join the team.

“Everyone I have spoken to has had nothing but good things to say about the club and I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to play in the English Premier Ice Hockey League this season.

“With the team that Ryan is building at Swindon, I would like to think we’ll have a great opportunity at doing well in the play-offs this season as well as the cup.”

Buglass began his career with the Cardiff Junior Devils more than 10 years ago and has remained with the club ever since.

Devils director of hockey Neil Francis said: “This is a great step for Callum’s development with the perfect balance of regular on and off ice training with our Elite League side with the increase game time and role that the Swindon can provide.

“We see Callum as a player with huge potential and we look forward to working with Swindon to fully utilise that.”

During his short career, the talented youngster has featured for the Devils U16s and U18s teams 72 times netting 18 goals and recording 40 assists for 58 points.

He has also iced with the clubs two NIHL sides a total of 58 times, scoring seven with 11 assists, and over the past two season, Buglass has made 24 appearances for the Elite League outfit.
