CORSHAM’S Steve Bullen was chuffed to see his team rediscover their killer instinct as they swept aside Weston-super-Mare by seven wickets last weekend.

The Station Road men, who had won four on the trot before losing at Downend and seeing their game against Ashcott & Shapwick rained off on July 19, swept aside their Somerset opponents, dismissing Weston for just 107 before cruising to 109-3 in just over 20 overs.

And batsman Bullen thinks that his team should be going for the jugular more often.

“In the last three, four or five seasons, we’ve had teams in that kind of position but let them go on to 160 or 170 and make half a game out of it,” he said.

“It was nice to see us put our foot on the throat and finish things off. It was a really clinical bowling performance from us.

“It’s a great habit to get into and the teams that win titles do that kind of thing all the time when they get into good positions.

“We’re staying grounded because we know that we’ve got three massive games coming up against Taunton Deane, Bath and Frocester, who are all above us.

“There’s only 18 points between us and the top of the table, so if we want to get up into the mix, we need to make sure that we carry on performing the way that we did last weekend against Weston.”

Visitors Weston won the toss and chose to bat first but after opener Robert Turner made 44, the Weston order crumbled under the pressure of the Corsham bowling attack.

Jalal Ahmed (17) was the closest visiting batsman behind Turner as Paul Robbins (3-20), Joe King (2-16) and Jonathan Parker (2-14) did the damage, with Weston skittled early in the 34th over.

Toby Davies hit 35 whilst Ashur Morrison made 34 to get Corsham on their way, with both falling to Charl Willoughby, before Bullen (21 not out) and Sam Collier (12 not out) eased the home side to their fifth win in seven matches.

Corsham make the trip to second-placed Taunton Deane this weekend.
