SKIPPER Jamie Mitchell was delighted to see his Biddestone side finally show the Glos/Wilts Division just what they’re capable of as they claimed the scalp of league leaders Lechlade last weekend.

Dwaine Perry stole the show with a knock of 99 and five wickets for just 26 runs as Biddestone won by four wickets at Cuttle Lane.

But Mitchell is in no doubt that his team, who are currently fourth in the table, have under-performed this season as they failed to launch a significant title bid.

“To be honest, I’d say that it was the first time we really clicked this season. I personally think that we’re better than Lechlade but we haven’t shown that we should be at the top of the table this year,” said the Biddestone captain.

“We have been relying on Dwaine a bit too much and he was fantastic last weekend, like he always is.

“He got caught out by a straight one and it was a shame he didn’t get his century. Myself and Andy Flynn chipped in too and then he was just brilliant with the ball.

“I don’t think that it’s mathematically impossible for us to get to the top of the table but realistically, there’s no chance now.

“We’ve had a great win last weekend and now we’d just like to try and finish the season strongly.”

Biddestone batted first after winning the toss and after losing their first three wickets for 98 runs, with Mitchell hitting 41, Perry stepped in to put the hosts in control.

Andy Flynn also weighed in with an unbeaten 53 as Mitchell’s men posted 238-4 before Perry then tore through Lechlade with the ball.

The visitors’ Ryan Higgins (51) and Joe Breet (41) led the visitors’ resistance but Biddestone clinched victory by skittling their opponents for 234 with less than an over to go.

Elsewhere, Chippenham maintained the gap between them and the Glos/Wilts relegation zone by beating Tewkesbury by eleven runs and leapfrogging their opponents into seventh in the table.

Paul Bates (55), Tom Young (40) and Geoff Prudhoe (38) helped the home side post 228-9 before Tewkesbury’s Freddie Humphries attempted to launch a fightback with a knock of 71.

But four wickets from George Reed and three from Denson Narayan saw the visitors dismissed for 217 in the penultimate over.
