SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper is planning to arrange another pre-season friendly for Saturday following their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United.

But it is not because he is displeased with his Town players as they get closer to the August 9 start.

“We just want to keep it as normal as possible for the season and that means trying to play every Saturday,” Cooper said.

“We are working on arranging another friendly for the weekend and hopefully we can get it sorted.”

Against Leeds, Town showed glimpses of the style of football they will be looking to play throughout the League One campaign.

However, the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes when Steve Morison tucked away Souleymane Doukara’s cross.

Town drew level on 31 minutes when Yaser Kasim’s corner was only have cleared for Michael Smith to bury.

But in the second half Swindon gave the ball away in key areas allowing the visitors to win a penalty that Rudy Austin tucked away.

“I thought that we did alright,” Cooper said. “We had a lot of possession, but we do need to be more potent.

“We have got 10 more days until the season starts so there is still time for us to work on things.

“But we were playing a good Championship team who will be competing at the right end of the table.

“You can see the affect that Dave Hockaday has had on them, they worked their socks off for him, and in the end the game could have gone either way.”

Cooper was pleased with how Smith went against the Championship side and is working towards forming a partnership with the fit again Andy Williams.

“One thing about him he works his socks off,” Cooper said. “At times he can look awkward and gangly, he is young lad that we are working with and I think that will get better and better.

“They (Smith and Andy Williams) are very similar they are quick and mobile, and there is work to do to get their partnership going.”

Either Cooper or Power mentioned briefly that the additional match, if arranged, is likely to be against an overseas team.

Considering how knackered some of the players have looked in pre-season (not every game but cumulatively it's caught up with some in some performances) I would've thought we'd be looking at keeping them fit and out of harms way for the first league game.
