SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper was impressed by the performance of trialist Devante Romeo in the Robins development side’s 3-2 win at Bedfont & Feltham last night.

Devante, a right winger playing at right wing-back for Town at The Orchard, joined up with the first-team squad on Wednesday and was one of four new faces looking to impress Cooper with their efforts in west London.

Matt Marshall, formerly on the books of Notts County, Curtis Tilt and Aaron Sekhon all featured against Bedfont, though it was Romeo who was picked out by Cooper’s post-match.

On the trialists, Cooper said: “At times they played some decent football tonight. It’s difficult when the pitch is a bit bobbly and they don’t know anyone in one game to impress. The number two, Romeo Devante, did well. He trained with us (on Wednesday) and did alright.”

Romeo now stands a chance of being included in the Swindon squad for the trip to Bromley on Saturday afternoon.

Last night, goals from Romeo and Josh Cooke, in an addition to an own goal, were enough to see off the Combined Counties outfit from Bedfont.

Cooper reflected on the game by saying: “We’re just looking at our style of play and trying to bed it in with our younger players. We’ve got some exciting boys coming through and we do a lot of work with them. It’s men’s football for them and they come and they take a few bumps, bruises and kicks and they have to learn how to deal with it.

“It’s important we let them develop, don’t put any pressure on them and try to let them enjoy their football. We try to do as much work as we can with them and try to improve them on a daily basis.”
