THERE are just seven days left to nominate a young athlete for our Stars of Tomorrow contest, being run with Bag4Ssport Foundation, and give them a chance of a grant of £500.

Among those already nominated is volleyball player Yasmin Kaashoek, 15, from Poulshot, near Devizes.

The Devizes Volleyball Club member represented England in Mexico in the U17s Beach Volleyball World Championship last week as she and partner Anaya Evans reached the last 16 before losing to eventual runners-up Haley Hallgren and Joy Dennis of the United States.

Kaashoek and Evans had earlier defeated Mexico’s Alejandra Tapia and Daniela Torres in the first elimination round.

Kaashoek said after that match: “We picked up the pace and our effort and it just showed in the match that we come together and that we are just not a small country in terms of beach volleyball, so it’s a big win for us and for our country.

“It is our first international event and we trained in Mexico for five days to get used to it because England is windy, rainy and not very warm. So we have made a lot of adjustments.”

Kaashoek will also represent England Cadet Women at this year’s Sainsbury’s 2014 School Games in Manchester in September. Her father, Hans, said: “Yasmin has worked hard to excel at her sport. She trains hard, works hard and will be a great sports star for the future.”

To nominate a youngster for a Bag4Sport grant, fill in the form in this week's Gazette & Herald or see bag4sport.co.uk.

Teenager cyclist Pete Kibble, 16, from the hamlet of New Zealand, near Calne, will also compete at the Games in September.
