I’M really happy to finally be back playing but I don’t think that I’m anywhere near back to my best yet.

I’ve played three games since returning from injury but that’s three games in two months and it’s taking a little bit of time to get back into the swing of things.

I pride myself on my bowling in T20 cricket – I like to anticipate what a batsman is going to do and I’m quite an important part of that side, and I did take two wickets on Tuesday (against Essex).

But I know that I can do a hell of a lot better.

The groin is still pretty tight after games at the moment because the body isn’t used to the cricket side of things but I’m sure that will get better.

I’m just relieved to be back playing again and even though we didn’t win the game, I was really happy to get four wickets last week (against Essex in the County Championship).

I’m playing in a second team game today. It’s a one-day match over in Canterbury against Kent and James Tomlinson and Glenn Maxwell are also playing because it’s good preparation for the 50-over competition, which starts this weekend.

They’ve changed it to 50 overs this year to get closer to international rules and it’s going to be interesting to see how we approach the competition because we’ve always been a pretty aggressive 40-over side.

It’s a great competition and, of course, there’s the reward of a final at Lord’s, which is a special place to play.

The T20 gets put on the back seat for a week or so because we’ve played our last game and we’ve got an outside chance of a home quarter-final. We’ve just got to hope that Surrey don’t win both of their games.

I signed my new contract last week and it’s for another three years after this season.

There had been talks for a little while after they asked me if I wanted to extend, which was something I was happy to do.

I’m playing for a side that does well most years and the facilities are great here.

I signed my last extension two years ago but I’m still playing with a great set of lads, which includes a lot of players I’ve grown up with since I was 11 or 12-years-old.

Why would I want to leave?
