CHIPPENHAM Town's pre-season preparations continued this evening as they saw off Toolstation League neighbours Calne Town in the annual Fred Rutty Cup.

Two penalties either side of half-time and another goal from Alan Griffin saw Mark Collier's men run out comfortable winners at Bremhill View.

The Bluebirds were handed their first spot-kick of the evening with around 13 minutes on the clock after Conor McCormack was tripped in the area, with striker Griffin stepping up to slot past Calne goalie Jamie Bartlett.

Minutes later, Luke Ballinger's superb effort from outside the area looped onto the crossbar whilst Tom Slater headed narrowly wide from a free-kick at the other end.

With ten minutes of the first period remaining, Griffin played a smart ball over the top of the Calne defence to Ballinger who returned the favour with a pinpoint cross that was gleefully smashed into the top corner by the Chippenham front man to make it 2-0.

Kent Kauppinen presented Mark Smith with an opportunity to go for goal midway through the second period but the Bluebirds goalie recovered well to charge down the Lilywhites man's effort.

James Guthrie drew a fine low save from Bartlett but after McCormack won the visitors' second penalty of the evening when he was dragged down in the area after embarking on a blistering run, the Chippenham winger sent the Calne keeper the wrong way from the spot.

Collier's side host Conference North Oxford City in their first home friendly of the summer at Hardenhuish Park next Saturday.
