DEVIZES waltzed into the New Year with a dominating performance to move within 30 strikes of 1,000 league goals.

The leaders have scored 974 since their debut eight and a half years ago and are on course to hit 1,000 this season.

Captain Charles Hanson had given his side orders to relax over the Christmas break and any rest did the trick as the hosts came out from the first minute.

Charles Doel scored his first goal of the season following a flowing move and Devizes moved out of sight with strikes from Steve Holloway, Sam Gaiger and two from Charlie Seccombe.

What was perhaps the most pleasing for the side was a clean sheet as, after periods of dominance, they are prone to defensive errors.

However keeper John Rheinberg didn't touch the ball in the first half.

With the score 5-0 at half time the game was dead but the Moonraker men continued to press and scored a further nine.

Seccombe netted three more to add to his two in the first half, Roger Edwards scored two and Holloway and Gaiger netted again.

Doel rounded off a superb afternoon for the club as he completed his hat-trick in the second half rout.

Right back Robert Dolan said: "This was an excellent win and a good team performance. We must be wary as, tougher games lie ahead."

One of those is away to Bridgend next week and Dolan insists his side will not underestimate them.

"They will be hurting from their heavy defeat to us earlier in the season. They will be up for a battle and if we are not, we will lose. We will be training hard this week to ensure we are fully prepared."

Meanwhile, Marlborough went down 3-1 at home to Swansea Bay in Premier One to leave them third from bottom of the division.
