SWINDON Town have appointed Scott Lindsey as the club's new under 18 manager.

Lindsey assumes the role after Jamie Pitman moved back into the position of phase coach at the Town academy

Lindsey told www.swindontownfc.co.uk: “I spoke to Mark Cooper towards the end of last season. I went and met him and heard how he wants things done with the way the first team play mirrored by the youth team. I like the philosophy at the club.

“I’ve known Mark for a couple of years now,” he continued. “I was a player for Gillingham and played a lot of non-league in the Conference. I got into the coaching side towards the end of my career and started off my (coaching) career at Gillingham in the youth team. I was also first team coach at Lincoln for a couple of years and had a spell in charge as caretaker manager. Then last season I was at Tamworth as assistant manager. I’m really happy to be here.”

Academy manager, Jeremy Newton said: “Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the academy. I’ve been to watch the under 18s in pre-season already, where I spoke to the players individually, and they have all commented on the start to the season with the new system and new ideas from Scott.

“They’re all looking forward to the challenge of working with him and I’m also looking forward to watching the development of those players under the guidance of Scott.”

Lindsey's charges are in action at Fairford Town tonight, with kick-off 7.45pm. Entry is free at Cinder Lane.
