SWINDON Town would need to be offered “an awful lot of money” to make them consider selling Nathan Thompson, according to manager Mark Cooper.

The Advertiser understands both Leeds United and Peterborough United are monitoring the Robins’ captain, though neither club has made a formal approach to take Thompson away from Wiltshire, but Cooper is adamant only a sensational offer will compel Town to part with one of their prized assets.

The Swindon boss, who stressed he has not had any contact with Leeds or Posh over the availability of the player, said: “I think it would take an awful lot of money. I wouldn’t see the benefit of selling him to a team in our league or a rival for a couple of hundred grand. I don’t see the benefit in that, and I know Lee (Power) will say the same.

“If it’s a lifechanging move and it will benefit the player then I’m sure it will happen but as of yet nobody’s rang me.

“I’ve seen about Leeds United but I’m a good friend of Dave Hockaday and he’s certainly not rung me about Nathan.

“I don’t think going to another League One club would really benefit Nathan, unless it was Sheffield United or someone like that. But they still have to come up with the money. I worked for Barry Fry and Barry’s not rung me about Nathan.”
