ROSS Langdon, of South Cerney Golf Club, finished on two under par to win the Hills Wiltshire Professionals tournament at Marlborough Golf Club.

The 36-hole event saw 18 professionals tee off and, after the first round, Chippenham Golf Centre’s Kelvin Aitken led by three shots after a three under par round of 69.

Lying second was Dan Carter, from Upavon, at level par, two shots ahead of Ben Newman, of Ogbourne Downs, Mark Searle from High Post, Ross McCance, from Chippenham Golf Centre, and eventual winner Langdon.

Despite a triple bogey on the first hole of the afternoon round, Aitken reached the turn with his three-shot cushion intact.

However, dropped shots on the 12th, 13th and 16th, while Langdon was putting together a second round of four under par, ensured a close finish.

The shot which effectively clinched the title for Langdon was an amazing drive on the par four 16th, where he left his ball nine inches from the hole for a tap-in eagle. Both players birdied the 18th giving Langdon victory by a shot.

Barry Forster, from North Wilts Golf Club, was third with a total of one over par following an afternoon 69.

Carter finished fourth on three over, Searle fifth on four over and tied sixth on five over were Nick Brennan from Bowood, Newman and the evergreen Graham Laing from North Wilts.
