SWINDON’S GP star Troy Batchelor is looking for support to help him compete in the series.

The Australian produced by far and away his best World Championship display in Copenhagen last time out, scorching to 20 points, which included six straight race wins, before he narrowly lost out to Niels-Kristian Iversen in the final.

However, having been a late call-up to the series in the winter as a replacement for legendary Pole Tomasz Gollob, Batchelor didn’t have the time necessary to recruit an army of sponsors to help fund the considerable cost of competing at the highest level of the sport.

With Grand Prix prize money not always covering the costs of competing, life at the top can be hard, but Batchelor is hoping some help from local businesses might make things slightly easier.

“It’s hard because I got the call at the last minute and I only had a couple of weeks to try and sort things before I had to go to New Zealand for the first round of the series, so sponsors were the last thing on my mind at that point,” he said.

“I picked up a few little ones here and there and they’ve really helped but I haven’t got a major team sponsor like a lot of the other guys do.

“It’s been tough because some of the prize money at the GPs isn’t very good, especially when you don’t do so well, so all the help I could get would be amazing. There’s non-stop opportunities really, with kevlars, bike covers, hats, internet, pit boards and all the mechanics too. They get seen on TV really clearly during the Grand Prix so it’s good to show off your business.

“There’s a lot we can do, so it would be great to get some help on board.”

Batchelor’s display at PARKEN sent him rocketing up the Grand Prix standings to 11th, putting him back in touch with the top eight, which provides his best route back into the series for the 2015 season.

“We’ll see if we can do that (performance in Denmark) again but one of my goals this year was to get on a podium and then the second was to stay in the championship for next year.

“Last week in Denmark really helped with that, so I keep re-evaluating my goals every week to make sure I’m always pushing myself.

“I’m really looking forward to Cardiff and looking for a good result there, which would help push me even more.”
