ISLE of Man TT legend John McGuinness starred at Castle Combe’s Superbike Grand National last Saturday.

The 21-times winner took part in the classic bike parade, on the six-cylinder 250 Honda of another two-wheel legend Mike Hailwood Former 500cc World Championship competitor Steve Parrish rode a 500 four-cylinder Honda, while current Isle of Man competitors Daniel Cooper and James Hillier also took part.

Joe Burns won the King of Combe title with three wins from three starts in the Phoenix open races on his J G Speedfit Z X 10 Kawasaki, setting a new outright lap record of 1:10.91 seconds and speed of 93.92mph.

Daniel Cooper was second with Phil Bevan third.

Chris Martin notched up a pair of wins in the two ACU 250cc national championship races, in which Broughton Gifford’s Darrell Higgins claimed two fifth-placed finishes on his Dennis Trollope backed T Z 250cc Yamaha.

Flying Novice jacket rider Andrew Campbell, from Chippenham, notched up a couple of top six finishes in two of his Sound of Thunder races and won the Novice open race despite starting from 15th on the grid.

He also set the fastest lap of the race in 1:17.87 and a speed of 85.81mph on his 1098cc Ducati.

Local race marshal Bob Smith, from Melksham, celebrated his 90th birthday and 25 years as a marshal.

There was also a flypast by the Red Arrows as a tribute to Simon Andrews, Bob Price, and Karl Harris who recently lost their lives racing at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT races.
