CORSHAM skipper Pete Dennett has urged his side to maintain the standards of the past two weeks when they come up against struggling Bristol on Saturday.

The Station Road men claimed an eye-catching victory for the second weekend on the trot to put themselves firmly in the battle for honours in Wadworth 6X West of England League Premier One.

Dennett's men, who last week defeated reigning champions Bath, lowered the colours of much-fancied leaders Frocester at home by 66 runs on Saturday.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, a second-wicket partnership of exactly 100 between Wiltshire skipper Mike Coles (67) and club captain Dennett (49) helped the home side to an encouraging start.

Later on, an eight-wicket stand of 52 between Ashur Morrision and James Arney (15 not out) took the home total to 273-8 from their 50 overs.

Morrison's 52 came in 38 balls and included three fours and three sixes. Nick Trainor took 3-43 for the Gloucestershire visitors and he also scored 58 in Frocester's reply.

But wickets fell regularly as Arney took 3-41 and there were two each for Paul Robbins (2-43) and Jon Parker (2-18).

Despite late hitting from Frocester number 11 Tom Morris (31), the finished on 207 all out in the 45th over.

“Saturday was a very pleasing performance against a very strong team,’’ said Dennett.

“We batted with a lot of composure early on and that allowed us to put a solid score on the board.

“Pleasingly we then took our discipline from last week with the ball into the field and really put them under pressure immediately.’’

He added: “It was really good to see Mike Coles and Ashur Morrison in form with the bat and we were really pleased for Ashur as he had a very serious car crash on Thursday and not many others would have played.

“Then with the ball James Arney and Tom Foley got us off to a great start and the fielding and support bowling was very strong.’’

Bristol claimed their first win of the season with a ten-wicket success over Ashcott & Shapwick last weekend and Dennett added: “They will be keen to make it two and we won’t be resting on the back of these two wins.

“Now we hope to make it three to really put us in a strong position going into the second half of the season.’’
