STEVE Worrall has admitted he’s firmly on the ‘crest of a wave’ at present and doesn’t ever want to be off his bike.
The Robins reserve is now regularly referred to as being one of the busiest riders in British speedway, given he races in the Elite League for Swindon, Premier League for Edinburgh and for Cradley in the National League.
The St Helens-born youngster regularly hits double figures for all three of his teams, scoring those points from reserve for Swindon and Edinburgh, and having scored 11+2 in his most recent Robins outing at Leicester he insisted he won’t allow himself to relax despite his continued success.
“I’ve done a few laps around Leicester so I kind of know the place and I kind of expected a bit from myself before the start of the meeting, but not as much as I got,” he said.
“I know what I can do but it’s easier said than done. At the minute I’m just on a crest of a wave and I just keep going and I’m getting better and better.
“I’m trying to stay on the bike as much as I can because if you start taking breaks or if you start to relax at all then you lose the momentum.
“The thing for me to do is to keep on riding as much as I can and to keep fit.”
The key to Worrall’s success, he believes, has been his improved machinery which includes an engine he borrowed from twin brother Richie late last year.
“I’ve changed my machinery, that’s the biggest thing because you don’t become a bad rider overnight, but last year I kind of did,” he said.
“At the end of the season I borrowed an engine off Richie and things just went on from there. I’m still on that engine now and I’ve invested a lot of money in two new ones some I’m circulating around those three and using new bikes from the winter.
“Keeping fit makes you feel a lot better about yourself and if you get to the line knowing you’re a lot fitter than the rider next to you then you’ve already got the edge on them mentally.
“A lot has changed over the winter and it’s all going well for me.”
When asked if his brother might want his engine back, the Robins man said: “He used the engine for the British Final and he doesn’t like it, I don’t know why.”
