Kildemand is relishing his battle with Woffinden

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Peter Kildemand Peter Kildemand

PETER Kildemand is relishing the prospect of going head to head with world champion Tai Woffinden when Wolves visit the Abbey Stadium tonight.

The pair will line up at number one for their clubs tonight meaning, assuming they both ride in heat 15, they are scheduled to meet three times.

The duo have enjoyed a series of good battles in the past but Kildemand knows he needs to get the better of the joint GP series leader if he is to help the Robins continue to move up the table.

“It’s good to have Tai around but that means it’s going to be a very tough meeting,” he said.

“Tai struggled at the start of the season but he seems to be getting better now so it will be hard. I’ve had some good battles with him at Swindon so it will be nice to do that again and hopefully I can win.

“It’s one we need to win really to keep things going and keep on moving up the table. It’s going okay at the moment and it’s going better than it was.

“We’re strong at home so it’s good to have some meetings coming up where we can get some point.”

Kildemand has enjoyed a good week leading up to tonight’s meeting, making it through the GP qualifier on Saturday before booking his spot in the European Championship for the first time at Debrecen on Monday night.

“It’s really good to be through in the European event because it was another one of my big aims for the season,” he said.

“I don’t think I had been to the track before so it was pretty hard to start with and I got zero in my first one, but then I got a few wins and it was okay.

“It’s like a small GP series for me now and it’s exciting to think we’re going to have four big meetings now which should be good.”

Martin Smolinski and Andrzejs Lebedevs were handed European Championship wild cards yesterday, joining a field already containing Tomasz Gollob, Emil Sayfutdinov, Nicki Pedersen, Martin Vaculik and Kildemand.

The first round is staged at Gustrow on July 6 before visits to Togliatti, Holsted and Czestochowa later in the season.
