JORDAN Smith capped a hugely encouraging debut appearance on the European Tour by carding a one under par round of 71 on the final day of the Lyoness Open in Austria today.
The Derry Hill amateur, who earned an invite to the event courtesy of his management team MB Partners, rounded off four consistent rounds at the Diamond Country Club with three birdies in his final 18 holes.
The 21-year-old, who comfortably made the halfway cut after rounds of 71 and 72, shot his highest score of the week with a two over par 74 on Saturday.
But the Bowood ace, coached by Simon Shanks, bounced back today to finish as he had started, with a 71, which looked likely to leave him just outside the top 30.
Smith, who featured for Great Britain & Ireland against the United States in the Walker Cup last year, will go for glory in the British Amateur Championship in Northern Ireland later this month.
