NOMINATIONS for our Sports Stars of Tomorrow competition, in conjunction with Devizes-based charity Bag4Sport Foundation, are starting to flood in.

But you still have plenty of time to nominate a youngster aged 16 or under who you believe has potential to reach the top in their chosen sport.

If you are a parent you can nominate your own child or if you are a coach who sees a special spark in a youngster you can put them forward. All entries must be received by July 31.

Bag4Sport supporters were out in force last Thursday at North Wilts Golf Club helping to raise around £2,000 to help make the grants possible.

Founder Andy Trusler said: “We had 14 teams taking part and it was a fantastic event. I would like to thank everyone who took part and those who sponsored the event.”

The event was won by the team of John Hawkins, Phil Ireson, John Bathe, Duncan Bathe. Daniel Sloane had the longest drive and the nearest the pin competition, sponsored by Awdry Bailey and Douglas, was won by Colin Elliott.

Next up for Trusler will be the Ben Nevis Challenge next weekend. He will be joined in his team by Chauntine Lyons, Vicky Baldy and Paul Buckingham as they climb Ben Nevis, cycle 25 miles and then canoe across Loch Lochy.

Trusler said: “We are still looking for sponsorship for this event so we can continue to help youngsters make their sporting dreams come true.”

This is the second year that the Gazette & Herald is joining forces with Bag4Sport Foundation to find Sports Stars of Tomorrow in Wiltshire.

We need your help to identify youngsters who need a financial boost to make the most of their sporting talent.

Last year grants of £500 were given to three winners and £100 to three runners-up and the charity will do the same again for 2014.

The winners are likely to be youngsters who have already stated to make their mark on their chosen sport but could do with a financial boost to help with coaching, kit or travelling costs.

We will need to know why they need help and their achievements to date.

Any youngster up to the age of 16 can be nominated but they must not already be receiving a grant from the Lottery or their sporting body.

We will pick one winner and one runner-up from each of the three Gazette & Herald edition areas – Devizes, Marlborough and North Wiltshire.
