WILTSHIRE showjumper Jessica Mendoza has established a base in Holland to continue her successful European campaign.

The 18 year old, from Tockenham, has set up in the country’s main showjumping centre in Eindhoven with her string of more than 12 horses.

"I have been doing A levels this Summer, back home in Wiltshire, and taking this coming year out to focus on climbing the world rankings’’ she said..

"Our new yard offers fantastic facilities and it means we can move up a gear with the international competitions, whilst keeping travelling the horses to a minimum.

“It also gives us the scope to take on residential students looking to get a real flavour of the sport at top level.’’ Mendoza, in only her second competitive season in horses, has already reached 16th position in the Team GBR rider rankings and broken into the top 200 in the FEI Longines world rankings.

She rode in and won her first event four-star event, The Longines Global Champions Tour in Antwerp in April, with Spirit T, before snatching another victory at the level, two days later with Ramiro de Belle Vue.

Last weekend, Mendoza rode in her first ever Derby at Eindhoven and won that too with Ramiro, beating William Funnell into second place and went on to finish second herself, on Spirit T, in the Eindhoven Grand Prix the following day.
