PETER Kildemand knows his Grand Prix wild card chance is one he needs to take if he is to push his career to new heights in 2014.

The Robins number one was yesterday called up to wear the famous number 16 race jacket at his home Grand Prix in Copenhagen on June 28, for what will be his maiden World Championship appearance in the main field having twice been at Parken as a track reserve.

With a potential World Cup appearance also looming large on his horizons, Kildemand knows a good performance in the GP could also force Denmark boss Anders Secher’s hand as he ponders his team selection for summer.

“I’ve known for a few days now but I had to keep it quiet but obviously it’s really big for me because getting into the GPs is something I really want to do,” he told the Advertiser.

“This is a big chance for me and it’s one I know I have to take. I didn’t expect it because there are some very good Danish riders but it’s really nice to have been picked.

“It’s going to be hard and I’m going to be nervous but there’s no pressure on me and if I can get to the semis I will be happy. If you can get there then anything can happen.

“The team manager has said to me that this is my chance to show him what I’ve got and I really hope I can do that.”

While the temptation is there to try and go the extra mile in preparation for his first Grand Prix start, Kildemand is keen to keep things simple and continue to do what he does best.

He said: “You do think about what more you can do but it’s going to be the same because if you do too much you are going to overcook it and then make it harder for yourself.”
