Troy’s still in talks

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Troy Archibald-Henville is still in talk over a new deal Troy Archibald-Henville is still in talk over a new deal

SWINDON Town remain in discussions with defender Troy Archibald-Henville regarding the defender’s future, with no deal agreed yet.

The big centre-half’s initial two-year contract with the Robins came to an end following the 2013/14 campaign and, after being blighted by knee injuries during much of his stay at the Country Ground, Archibald-Henville’s return to fitness and a string of stellar displays in the final weeks of the season was enough for him to be offered a new contract.

That reduced-terms deal remains on the table but no agreement has been reached between the two parties at this stage.

After joining from Exeter in the summer of 2012 for an initial £200,000 fee, decided by a tribunal, Archibald-Henville has played 23 times for Town and also enjoyed an impressive four-game loan spell with Carlisle at the start of last season.

As well as Archibald-Henville, the County Ground club are also thought to have offered new deals to Jack Barthram, Raphael Rossi Branco and Connor Waldon but there is yet to be an announcement regarding whether these offers have been accepted.

Town released 10 players at the end of last season with the most high profile being Jay McEveley and Dany N’Guessan.

It is quiet at the moment at the County Ground but I guess that's to be expected, probably the manager and players away on holiday. I hope Troy agrees a deal to stay, he did so well in the second half of last season.

On another note I was in the pub/restaurant "The Silk on the Downs" in Ogbourne last week and word is Fraser Digby is taking over there so should be able to get in there of an evening after a game on a Saturday and chat over the game with him once he's back and pulling a pint. What with Phil King also running a pub it's funny how a lot of ex pro's end up taking over a pub?

Interesting to see Jeremy Wray linked with Birmingham, I guess we would all assume that perhaps Paolo may re-appear there if that happens, bet Paul Caddis is fearing the worst!

For me he should be offered pay as you play deal only. We cant afford to have a player on the books who could be out for months at a time. The fact that he and jay were playing once a week says it all really.

Blimey, the reputation of Silk On The Downs will be ruined if Diggers takes over- not so much him but our Trace - if she gets her hands on the menus it'll go from posh nosh to an egg and chips transport caff!

I would agree with you that with his suspect knee that a pay as you play contract is the best he can expect from any club. The fact he has not yet signed a contract is a sure indicator that he is not entirely happy with the offer and his agent is most likely looking elsewhere to get him a better deal. Shame really as most fans would agree we haven't really got our moneys worth from him because of his injury

Pay as you play deal only ? If such contacts are permitted under F.A. law they must be rare and difficult to arrange. If Troy is as fit as he now seems to be I doubt that he will be unable to get a better deal elsewhere.

The trouble is without access to his current medical condition its difficult to say what is best route forward for both town and Troy. If his current diagnosis is that he can make a full recovery then surely based on his performances at the end of the season he would be worth a reduced weekly salary boosted by performance bonuses. If this is the case other clubs would surely offer him at least this. If the knee situation is still inconclusive or worse always going to be a problem then you can see the logic in a pure pay as you play deal and also few clubs in current climate would be willing to offer him a good contract. As much as he is a quality player and I really want him to stay AND play, it would also be a nightmare to end up in the Navarro situation again. There are all sorts of possibilities, like say he plays in over 30 games this season it could be written into contract that terms improve and vice versa could be a minimum no of games whereby the contract could end. Just think he is worth the time to explore possibilities that could work for him and us

Don't think a pure pay as you play deal would really work or be fair - as if he gets injured by a bad tackle and say breas a leg - he suddenly could be months without an income! This would then be nothing to do with his knee!
.
I do think he should have his wage restructured so he has a larger appearance fee and lower base salary - so if he is playing he is rewarded - but if not is still getting paid - as any employee should be!
.
The fact he has not signed is not really an indicator of anything - especially as none of the 4 have signed up or declined
.
Players will want to take their time - assess their options before signing new deals - which is fair enough - they also are unlikley to take the first offer - even in straight forward extensions there will be a period of negotiations
.
Also it could simply be he has gone off on holiday!

We always get the "pay as you play" contract idea mentioned on these forums but they are not a common thing in football because they are a ridiculous notion to a professional footballer who needs to earn a living. How many "pay as you play" contracts have Swindon issued in recent times? None! I bet you could count on one hand the amount of "pay as you play" contracts that have been issued in the football league in the last few years!

I'd like to post a comment about something, but can't think of one news worthy positive to comment on with regards to STFC.

We don't know who the owner is between the one (holding company) that has put 1.2 million in or the one that put nothing in and has taken 1/2 million out and now have to wait nearly a month for that to be resolved..

No news on the 4 still to sign extended contracts, neither any mention of interest with bringing in new players before pre-season. No surprise there and once again probably have to wait a month not knowing what strength of team we are likely to have.

We have no main shirt sponsor and therefore no announcement if we will have a new kit for the season, (replica's with Samsung are still on sale though for anyone that wants one.)..

No mention if we will ever see the books as was promised. Given up on that one

No mention of how the season ticket sales are going, (last report that I read was about 3500), well short of last season., but what can we expect if we don't know what direction the club is going with the ownership.

A couple of things to look forward too, fixtures are out on 18th June, here's hoping for a home game to kick off with and ....................
.can't think of another positive, unless we count Cooper and Co are still intact, at least we have some stability in the management team.

OTR, It looks to me from the wording of the Court article, also today, that Power is forcing Jeds hand on this issue as he has insisted the case be heard while Jeds team opposed it, which says to me, they are solely in it for what they can bleed out of it.

Hope a deal of sorts with Troy can be agreed, some sort of wage structure with add ons for appearances and as long as injuries are non knee related should make it fair to both sides. I think he should show some degree of allegiance as the club have always remained positive about his future over the longer term. We are far better with him in the team by a huge margin.
