BOSS Neil Shardlow admitted that Wiltshire failed to hit their own high standards during their victory over Wales last weekend but was nonetheless pleased to see the county maintain their flawless Unicorns Knockout Trophy campaign.

Wiltshire secured top spot in Group One and a home quarter-final against Group Two runners-up Norfolk with a four-wicket triumph over Wales at Warminster on Sunday.

And that victory means that the in-form 2012 Trophy finalists, who failed to win a single competitive game last season, have tasted victory in every outing so far this summer.

Batsman Tom Morton starred with a hefty unbeaten knock of 123 to help Wiltshire chase down Wales’s 231-9, with the hosts reaching 235-6 early in just over 47 overs.

“I think we know that the performance wasn’t as good as it has been in previous games – but we got the result that we wanted and we’re going to be at home in the quarter-finals against Norfolk,” said Shardlow.

“Wales actually got off to a tremendous start and I don’t think that we bowled particularly well until the middle overs.

“But Mike Coles and Tom Morton almost got us all the way there, before Ashur Morrison came in and hit a great unbeaten 30 alongside Tom’s fantastic knock.

“We played (Norfolk) at Devizes last season and bowled them out for 200 or so but still managed to lose the game – they’re definitely a strong side.

“We’ll be playing at Corsham, which is a ground we do well at and always back ourselves to score runs at.”

Wiltshire are due to host Norfolk in the first knockout stage on June 15.
