WILTSHIRE captain Mike Coles was chuffed to see teammate Ashur Morrison come back with a bang as he starred in the county’s 37-run victory in Dorset last weekend.

Corsham’s Morrison sat out the county’s win over Cornwall at his home ground on May 11 as he recovered from injury but marked his return by hitting a late unbeaten 41 off 16 deliveries, as well as claiming a five-wicket haul in Bournemouth on Sunday.

Coles, who also plays his club cricket at Corsham, said: “Ashur’s a good friend of mine, so I was really happy to see him perform like that on the weekend.

“He was left out of the last game because of his injury, which meant that he wouldn’t really be able to bowl the ten overs that we needed from him.

“He’s come back in with a match-winning performance with both bat and ball.”

Wiltshire team boss Neil Shardlow said: “41 off 16 balls is a brilliant score and he was hitting boundaries that were twice the size of some of the local grounds we play at.

“We’re going to do everything we can to try and secure top spot with a win against Wales this weekend.”

Neil Clark (53), James Hayward (50) and Adam Miles (46) all weighed before Morrison’s late salvo helped Wiltshire post 294-7.

Dorset’s Luke Webb hit back with a knock of 65 but Morrison piled on the pressure, taking 5-56 as the hosts were skittled for 257 after 47 overs.

Top-scoring batsman Clark said: “That’s five from five for Wiltshire now – hopefully we can get that home quarter-final.

“Things are going very well for the side and I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.”
