CHIPPENHAM TOWN: 'The time is right to walk away,' say Webbs

CHIPPENHAM Town stalwart Doug Webb feels that the time is right for him and wife Sandie to step down from their roles as directors at Hardenhuish Park.

The duo, who have been involved with Chippenham for 37 years and have both previously held the role of chairman, this week opted to call time on their spell on the Bluebirds board of directors.

Doug, who was most recently president at Hardenhuish Park, feels that he leave the Southern League club in safe hands under the leadership of current chairman Neil Blackmore.

The 74-year-old said: “We’ve been involved with the club for a long time and it feels like the right time to move on.

“50 per cent of my life has been at Chippenham Town and I first took over as chairman when I was 38 – I was pretty much a young lad then and things have changed so much over the years.

“I think that Neil is doing a great job, with Jane (Blackmore) supporting him, and in Mark (Collier) and Tom (Jones), we’ve got the best management team we could have right now.

“We’ll still be back for some games next season and we’ll be involved, just on a much smaller scale.”

Fellow outgoing director Sandie, 61, added: “I actually left the club for a few years and came back but Doug has been there since 1978.

“We actually met at the football club, such a long time ago.”

Chairman Blackmore said: “Without their hard work and commitment, the club would not be the fantastic club it is today.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to say a massive thank you to Doug and Sandie for all you have done and on a personal note, thank you for the support and help you have given me during my tenure as chairman.”
