Massimo Luongo will learn whether or not he has been included in Australia’s preliminary World Cup squad in the early hour of tomorrow morning.

The Town midfielder, who signed on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur in August, has put himself in with a chance of selection following a series of impressive performances for the Wiltshire club in 2013/14.

Luongo made 53 appearances for the Robins, scoring six goals, and earning his first international cap for the Socceroos in the friendly against Ecuador at Milwall’s New Den in March.

He is widely expected to be named by Aussie national coach Ange Postecoglou in the 30-man squad which will be put through their paces at a training camp in Syndey in the build-up to the competition in Brazil, before Postecoglou cuts its numbers to the maximum 23 allowed by FIFA.

Luongo’s chances of being included in the initial 30-man squad may have been enhanced by news that Crystal Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak, who is expected to captain his country in Brazil, may not train before the tournament after going off injured during his club side’s trip to Fulham at the weekend.

The 23-year-old old will be vying for a place with the likes of James Holland of Austria Vienna, FC Utrecht’s Adam Sarota, Oliver Bozanic of FC Luzern and Brisbane Roar favourite Matt McKay.

Finally, former Swindon man Lee Cox signed a two-year deal with Plymouth Argyle yesterday following his release by Town 10 days previously.
