AFTER a rushed start, Dakota North feels as if he’s finally getting settled into life with Swindon Robins.

The Aussie replaced Nicolai Klindt in April after boss Alun Rossiter elected to let the Dane go following a shaky start to the season, with North quickly coming into the side for the victory over Eastbourne and scoring five on his debut.

He endured a nightmare evening at Lakeside the following night but, after looking quick in Monday night’s aborted clash with Birmingham, North now feels comfortable with the Robins.

“The first two meetings were a bit rushed and it was hard to get things going so quickly,” he said.

“I wasn’t looking forward to going to Lakeside, I never look forward to going there, and I kind of wish I hadn’t signed until after we had gone there and got that fixture out the way. I ended up going there and did terrible.

“My first meeting was alright and I did three good races on one bike and then went on my second one and did well. I stayed on that bike on Monday and felt good on it.

“Having Britain in there now is great because we have five meetings in nine days and it really helps me improve, so I’m really glad Rosco called me up.

“I know Troy (Batchelor) and Nick (Morris) really well and I’m getting to know Simon (Gustafsson) and Peter (Kildemand) too, so it ‘s a great team to be part of and I’m really glad to be here.”

The young Aussie was pleased with how he performed on Monday night, before the rain ruined the meeting, and is hopeful the Robins can pick up where they left off against the Hammers this evening.

“It started well and everyone was doing really great, the track was great and I got off to a really good start,” North said.

“Me and Peter got in each other’s way a little and messed the 5-1 up, but that happens sometimes in speedway so I’ll get over it.

“My second ride came when the rain came down and it really wasn’t great.

“There’s a lot we can control but we really can’t control the weather.

“Everyone was riding really well, probably the best they have all season, although because I’ve only been here three meetings I’m not so sure, but it sounded as if everyone was doing really well.”

“It’s disappointing but we’ll just have to do it again on Thursday and I’m sure we’ll all be ready.”
