MARK Cooper was pleased with the impact made by Connor Waldon, as the teenager made his full debut for Swindon Town against Rotherham United on Saturday.

Waldon, a product of the club’s youth academy, came up against the experienced central defensive partnership of Kari Arnason and Claude Davis at the County Ground but more than held his own before he was substituted in the second half.

The Robins are still considering offering the striker an extended stay in Wiltshire, with his contract set to expire this summer, but given Cooper’s reaction to his performance it seems the youngster has a good chance of remaining at Town beyond the end of the current campaign.

Cooper said: “We decided to give Connor a go. We know what Miles can do, we know what the others can do and we just felt we needed to have a look at Connor to make a final decision on whether we keep him. I thought he did very well.

“I thought he got hold of the ball very well and he can be very pleased with that.”

The Swindon boss also handed debuts to first-year scholar Will Randall and left-back Matty Jones, who was handed a pro deal last week.

He said: “We are going to have to try and promote from the youth and those two boys have done particularly well. It was good to get them some time on the pitch and some experience.”
