Premier maximum puts Nick in a positive mood
FRIDAY night’s stunning maximum at Somerset is the perfect evidence for why Nick Morris was so keen to compete in both the Elite and Premier League’s this season.
The Aussie made five good gates to earn five heat wins against Ipswich at the Oaktree Arena and will be hoping to transfer his Premier League form into Elite League points in tonight’s basement battle against the Brummies.
Morris’ place in the Robins side was in considerable doubt at one stage during the winter as he contemplated leaving to make it easier to find a Premier League place but, having been welcomed back into the Somerset side, it’s now clear why the youngster saw competing in the second tier as vital to his development.
“It was a really good one for me because I’ve not been going too good around Somerset this season, although I’ve only done a few meetings, so it was nice to get a max and make five really good starts,” he said.
“I was feeling good around there which was the main thing.
“I’m just doing loads more meetings by doing both leagues and it’s helped me get back to some good form as quickly as I possibly can. Riding a lot really helps that.
“It’s not nice sitting around and having matches rained off, which happened at Swindon, so to be able to race in the Premier League is great and it gets your confidence up for the Elite League.”
Morris is more used to winning titles rather than battling at the bottom end of the table, but insisted every rider in the team will be doing their best to help turn things around.
“We’ve been battling really hard in every meeting but just not getting the results, but Rosco is doing all he can to get us fired up and we’ll keep on battling away,” he said.
“In the past it’s been easier for Rosco to pull something out the bag and make changes but there’s not many he can make now.
“He still has a lot of confidence in this team now and we will all be giving our best.”
