LOUIS Thompson has said that this season has “surpassed all expectations” - on both a personal level and on the part of the Swindon Town squad as a whole.

Thompson, a product of the club’s youth academy, has enjoyed a breakthrough year in the professional game. The 19-year-old has made 37 appearances for the Robins, scoring crucial goals against Sheffield United and Brentford.

Having begun the campaign with a target of between 10 and 15 run-outs for the first team in mind, Thompson is understandably thrilled by the progress he’s made.

He said: “It’s surpassed my own expectations and my family’s expectations quite considerably. I think the team has surpassed their expectations as well. On the whole, seventh or eighth or wherever we finish, I think it’s been a great season for the boys.

“We were thrown together pretty late and I think we’ve mustered up a bit of character. We’ve gone on one of the best runs we’ve been on for a while.

“Personally it was to play about 10 to 15 games this season - whether it was off the bench or starting, it didn’t really matter. I think I’ve done that in starts alone this season so I’m absolutely buzzing about how it’s gone. It couldn’t have gone any better and I’m just hoping for the same again next season.

“Goals I was waiting for until next season. I’m not a profound goalscorer, that’s for sure, but I’ll take every goal as it comes.”

he has done well this season and looks an even better prospect than his brother. No reason he can't cement a regular start next season and give our midfield a little more bite. Word of caution though him and his brother need to show a little more caution with their tackling and Nathan in particular cut the back chat to referees, The number of yellows this season for half the team was quite disgraceful and needs to be addressed as a concern for next season to be at least halved..

Well done Louis impressed every time you play and you are going to be our best midfield player in the very near future. It just goes to show as well that local talent is out there which is always great to see as well as fans always like to see local lads make the grade.
Keep it up Louis you and your brother are a revelation and more pro footballers should undertake the attitude and commitment you and Nathan have.
Good on you and has already been said your parents should be very proud of you and Nathan as both treat everyone and everything with respect.
