County Ground ownership battle goes to court

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: County Ground ownership battle goes to court County Ground ownership battle goes to court

SWINTON Reds 20 Ltd and former Swindon Town chairman Jed McCrory are due to meet in court this afternoon, as the confusion regarding the ownership of the club rumbles on.

The hearing at the Rolls Building in London, which is due to start at 2pm, is an extension of an ongoing “series of legal actions” against McCrory on the part of Swinton Reds - the holding company which was reported to have assumed the controlling stake in the club back in December.

On April 1, Seebeck 87 Ltd - the company used to acquire Swindon Town from Andrew Black in January 2013 - gave chairman Lee Power and his co-director Sangita Shah notice that it intended to place three new directors on the club’s board, claiming it remained the Robins’ owner.

Swinton Reds failed in obtaining an injunction against the action when the respective parties were last represented by their legal counsel in court on April 16 and the three directors - namely Adam Fynn, David Smith and Debbie Priestnall - were given, according to the club, the status of “observer directors”, with no power to make resolutions.

Seebeck disagree with that terminology, claiming the three have given an undertaking not to pass any resolutions until after the court reconvenes this afternoon following the case’s two-week adjournment.

McCrory is listed publicly as Seebeck’s major shareholder, with a 50 per cent stake in the company, while Fynn holds 45 per cent.

However, the ex-Town chairman has not been present at any of the meetings between Lee Power’s representatives and Seebeck, which have been held at the County Ground in recent weeks.

The hearing, to be held in courtroom 10 of the Rolls Building, is open to the public.

This worries me greatly as Jed claims that Swinton Reds have misdirected funds . Ironic.......

No good can come of this fight and I think we are now in the position that we will end up with the lesser of two evils.

Whether he is more convincing or not, I still have more faith in Swinton Reds tenure and Powers statements to date than Jed and his merry men.

Haven't seen or heard of any comments from Jed as of late, so surprised to hear he would come out and accuse Swindon Reds of the same thing he has been associated with. (assuming that the legal actions against him may have something to do with finances).

I hope we get some clarity after today, followed by Shah opening the books as was promised way back when and we can all better understand our true financial status and move on to plan for next season

This week I was expecting the main reports to be all about who was going and who was staying, instead we have this court case to be concerned with and once again another Nile Ranger court case to read about. After today if he's found guilty of the charges and after the club disciplinary meeting on Thursday he's still a Swindon player I would like to see the courts give him an ASBO and put him on a 10.00 curfew as it would seem to me all his problems seem to come about after having a drink or whatever turns him into a monster. Staying out late until the early hours clubbing is not how professional sportsman should be behaving. Personally I think after the trouble in Liverpool and now this, I can't see Power and Cooper putting up with it any more and as good as he is on the pitch, enough is enough. What a waste of talent and opportunity that most football fans can only dream about.

No proof as such just the how the news bulletin pictured the contest this morning. It appears to be claim and counter claim between Mcrory and Power rather than a fight as to who wants STFC.

There is certainly no love lost here between these two.

I just cannot see good coming out of this, and while money is being spent in courts its not being spent on the club or players.

As I said at the weekend, I can see this being adjourned so the court can wade through the paperwork of claim and counter claim.
It matters not which side "wins" it only brings the club itself into an unwanted spotlight, from which nobody benefits. I hope no wrong doing is discovered or the FL or FA get involved afterwards as it could bring a further penalty from them . I really do have a bad feeling about what today may reveal and deliver.

Den,
Read the sub-article of his 15 brushes with the law. If we put aside the armed robbery of 2007 aside when he was a "minor" . From 2011 at the age of 18 it's been downhill all the way, almost every infringement has been alcohol related. In my younger days working with other guest arbeiters in Germany, the "auf weider sehen pet" TV characters were pretty mild to what I witnessed with Brits especially from London and the North that just seemed to be attracted to trouble when intoxicated like flies to scheite. If one looks at most of his alleged crimes, it's all for assault, criminal damage and drink drive offences. Not to difficult to see the common denominator, the guy's brain gets scrambled when drinking and his aggressive nature comes out. It doesn't happen when playing football He won't be the first player that gets nasty after a drink and won't be the last, the sooner he faces up to his demons and stays off the stuff, the more chance he would have of changing a flaw in his character that is doing immense damage to himself and others.Time for the law to come down hard on him and give him a punishment that will make him wake up. Fining him or even 120 hours unpaid community work obviously has not worked. give him a tag and set a curfew time and if he doesn't get the chance to go out after a certain time, he won't be able to get into trouble like he does now. Well one hope not but with Nile one never knows.

Den,
Read the sub-article of his 15 brushes with the law.
Thanks OTR. Interesting post too. Yes, I was aware of all the other offences. I completely understand what you're saying. Although I don't think anyone should be consigned to the scrap heap forever, I do think Ranger's very lucky that he's been given so many chances. After this shocking episode, it's difficult to imagine where the next one will come from. If the drink really does change his character in this way, then as you say it's up to him to decide in his sober moments to try to do something about it. If he's not interested in changing, he shouldn't be surprised if people are not queuing up to give him yet another chance.

I gather he's not being charged with assaulting the girl and he's pleaded not guilty to causing criminal damage. Both seem very strange to me!

Ranger and his misdemeanors are small fry in comparison, yes he should be sacked and good riddance, but the ownership is the key to taking this club forward in a positive manner or backwards into oblivion.

He will get away with it all over again and just laugh at us all......

The only reason I and others are making comments on this article regarding ranger is because there is no comment box to respond to with the other articles. Think you need to be a little more tolerant of the views of others regardless of the subject of conversation.

I am pleased that both sides are close to agreement, but agreeing to what is the question. I think given what has passed under the bridge over the last few years I can see that on a personal budget of very little compared to Black, Power has done a stunning job. It may not have been perfect but given what he had to start with, not much short of a miracle.

Wiz, no offence taken and no apology needed, a slight mis-understanding perhaps, I do see your point that the club is more important than the behaviour of a delinquent player, but if there had been the opportunity to post a view on my thoughts about Ranger somewhere else i would have. I guess the Adver has it's reason not to open his case for open debate based on what they have reported to date.

All of us would rather have different owners than the ones that we have now and the previous ones - the same two factions that are fighting in court as I write. Unfortunately other suitors are not exactly queuing up are they?

Like it1 lol. Of course the door started it, what choice did he have but to kick it in when it wouldn't open

Seriously I just can't imagine what grounds he has to plead not guilty if the camera has the proof it is him and his foot doing the damage how does he think he is going to get away with it..

He can't use the kidnap one again, Answers on a post card please for the most logical excuse he is going to give the judge.
He had a dream that he was at training and started kicking the big brown rectangle ball!
Suddenly he woke up and thought - What a nightmare! Training...... I'm not eating cheese before bedtime again.

Thanks for that. I suspected this may be the case and said so yesterday. I think there is a LOT more to this than meets the eye. I'm unsure about the three "directors" now as to whether they have sniffed out all the money that may be in the trough, and just how long at £xk, a month they can twist out of the club by means of wages.

I'm not interested what he did to the door, or the lift for that matter. It's the assault of the woman that's the main problem.

Whether she or the CPS press charges or not in my eyes he is a woman beater and so he should be sacked. If he isn't then in effect STFC are condoning his actions and saying they are tolerant of their players hitting females. That mustn't happen, regardless of how good he is on the pitch.

I can understand to an extent the reasons for giving him a chance when he first joined the club, and everyone is entitled to their opinion on that, but he has now stuck two fingers up to McCrory, Power, Cooper, and all the players by behaving in this way.

Disappointing that 25% of this forum have in effect voted that it's OK to hit a woman.

Completely contradicted yourself Hardly.

Your initial post bragged about how you were right and everyone else was wrong, then you say your comment doesn't ''differ much to the majority'' (sic).

Unbelieveable!
