LOUIS Thompson said that being able to give his brother Nathan victory as Swindon Town captain was amongst the proudest moments of his career.

The young midfielder struck on the stroke of half-time to seal a 1-0 success over promotion-chasing Brentford on Saturday.

And with his brother taking over the captaincy from the out-of-favour Darren Ward, Louis is an extremely happy sibling.

“I think Nath has done brilliantly as captain” Louis said.

“To win the games, the last ones I have scored in, to win it for him has been the proudest moment for me.

“It is not all about scoring. It is about getting three points and good performance.

“To have Nath as captain and to give him that is a massive plus for me. I think we have had a season that we will never forget and hopefully we have many more seasons to come.”

Thompson junior has made 33 appearances in a Town shirt this season netting twice in the last three games now and the 19-year-old, who has come up through the ranks at the County Ground, admits that this has exceeded all expectations.

“At the start of the season I set myself a target of 10 to 15 games, I have surpassed that massively and to score goals in that is brilliant,” he said.

“I think it is combination of hard work and trust. The manager (Mark Cooper) and assistant manager (Luke Wiliams) trusted me, threw me in and I hope that I have repaid them in some way, I owe them a lot.

“A lot of managers in the past, especially in big games, have the young players being dropped, especially when you have got big players, experienced players on the bench. So for me it is massive plus.

“The first goal that I scored (against Sheffield United). It was nice to have Miles (Storey), Connor (Waldron) and Nath all there.

“Swindon are now turning out some good youngsters, some great youngsters in fact.

“Miles has come alive in the last few games and he’s scored some great goals.

“I think that you will see a lot from Connor in the coming seasons, I think that he is another that can go from strength to strength.

“I don’t think it is just a positive for Connor, but for every young boys that plays here, also a positive for the club itself to invest time and effort in young lads to be repaid.”
