CHIPPENHAM Golf Club have opened three new holes as their new layout takes shape.

The holes will make up the 12th, 13th and 14th holes on an interim set-up, the full and final layout being opened on Saturday, May 17 with an opening weekend celebration including a member’s competition, teaching for beginners and green fee offers for the week following the opening.

The opening of the new holes will complete an ambitious redevelopment of the club which also includes a new clubhouse.

General manager Leighton Walker said: “It’s such a positive time at the club.

“There are very few golf clubs in the country seeing this sort of development and improvement currently and the facility is now viewed with real pride by the members.’’ n DOUGLAS Millington won Ogbourne Downs’ club stableford with 41 points.

Second in Division One was Andy Hatter (37) with Mark Bolton third (36).

Division Two went to Dave Watson (38), followed by Maurice Rogers (37) and Mary Myler (36).

A total of 110 players took part in the club’s medal last Saturday, Andrew Pagan (75-8=67) winning Division One from Ron Hancock (81-12=69) Alan Bathe (on countback, 80-9-71).

Division Two went to Sebastian James (90-21=69) after countback, followed by Dave Eagle (83-14=69) and Richard Sealey (85-14=71).

In the men’s medal, Paul Jones (80-12=68) won from Dave Myler (76-5=71), who shot the best gross score.

  • NORTH Wilts Juniors got the season off to a fine start at the Thornbury GC Junior Open.

Brad Sandford was the overall winner with a nett score of 64, six under par. Lauren Brooks won Division Two with nett 65 with Brad Horton fourth, missing out on second on countback.

In Division Three, Brad Smith was runner-up with a nett 68, winning out on countback over Jordan Rawlings and two other players.
