Just spoken to Rosco who told me Darryl Ritchings suffered a broken nose in the crash, it could have been a whole lot worse.
Official reason given is 'visibility'
Meeting concluded and the result stands: Swindon 26 Coventry 36
Heat 10: Woodward, Hansen, Kildemand, Klindt; 71.55 – 1-5 (26-36)
Bees make the start and Kildemand can’t pass in the rain.
Riders back at tapes.
Heat 10 is at the tapes but red lights go on. A track inspection has been called for.
Great ride from Worrall there.
Heat nine: Worrall, Garrity, Sarjeant; 70.30 – 3-3 (25-31)
Great first corner from Worrall sees him past both Bees before Sarjeant slips off and remounts.
Heat nine is only Steve Worrall, first staging stopped and Sarjeant warned to stay still.
In fairness, Pedersen was a long way behind, but had Gustafsson looked round for his partner more than the once he might have been able to help him out.
Heat eight: Gustafsson, Pedersen (tac), Fisher, Hansen; 68.10 – 7-1 (22-28)
Gustafsson and Pedersen both make superb starts but the Swede rarely looks over his shoulder before crossing the line ahead of his partner, who was riding in black and white.
Bjarne going in black and white
Heat seven: Garrity, Howarth, Klindt, Worrall; 69.21 – 1-5 (15-22)
Great stuff from Garrity as he takes the win. Worrall gave it his all but couldn’t keep his bike under control.
Heat six: (re-run) Woodward, Pedersen, Gustafsson, Andersen FX; 68.49 – 3-3 (14-22)
After Andersen is excluded following a collision with Pedersen which took both riders into the fence, the Robins guest couldn’t catch the Bees replacement.
At tapes for the re-run.
Hans wasn't excluded once while riding for the Robins last season.
Hans is excluded.
Heat six stopped after Hans and Bjarne both hit the fence.
Heat five: Morris, Hansen, Howarth, Kildemand; 68.18 – 3-3 (11-19)
Kildemand packs up while leading a 5-1 but Morris does really well to hold off Hansen to take the win.
The ambulance taking Darryl to the hospital has just left the stadium
Heat four: Fisher, Sarjeant, Worrall, Gustafsson R; 68.92 – 1-5 (8-16)
Worrall and Gustafsson are left stranded at the start. Worrall gives chase to the Bees pairing but Gustafsson suffers bike issues and doesn’t finish.
Worrall in for Ritchings, as he will be all night.
Heat three: Pedersen, Woodward, Hansen, Morris; 68.02 – 3-3 (7-11)
A brave first corner sees Pedersen beat his Eastbourne teammate.
Heat three at tapes
Heat two: Garrity, Sarjeant, Worrall, Ritchings FX; 69.11 – 1-5 (4-8)
After Ritchings is excluded following his heavy crash, Worrall is boxed in at the start as the Robins suffer a reverse maximum.
Riders coming back to tapes for heat two.
No sign of the re-run of heat two.
The Robins will also run with only one rider in heat nine.
He was also excluded from that heat. Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things.
The St John's Ambulance has left the track and Darryl is now being taken to hospital in a regular ambulance.
Darryl's now sitting up and is on the stretcher. That looked like it could have been a whole lot worse.
Darryl is moving his legs but is not yet in the ambulance.
This looks very nasty. Really hope he is okay.
Ambulance on the track.
He caught the fence before the start of the air barrier going into lap two, turn one. He caught Sarjeant as he was trying to pass for third.
Really nasty crash involving Darryl Ritchings. Looks like he's out cold.
First chance to see the two reserves around the Abbey.
First chance to see the two reserves around the Abbey.
Heat one: Kildemand, Andersen, Fisher, Klindt; 66.24 – 3-3 (3-3)
Andersen makes the start but the Robins number one leaps level by turn one and outmuscles his close friend to take the win. Very impressive.
Hans Andersen v Peter Kildemand in heat one, which is at tapes. Ryan Fisher and Nicolai Klindt thrown in too.
Mini parade done and we're on two minutes for heat one.
That prompt 7.30pm start with no parade seems to have been scrapped. They're coming round on that awful truck.
Troy Batchelor has been enjoying his practice at the GP in New Zealand today, as this photo shows.
This is the first chance for the home public to see the new race format. Interesting to hear what you all think...although if you're reading this then you may well not be witnessing it.
