DEVIZES wrapped up promotion from Davis Wood League Central One as they blitzed Team Bath Buccs C on Saturday.

They opened the scoring with their 100th goal of the season as great work from Rory Sherman set up Tom Alsop to fire home on the reverse stick.

Devizes dominated throughout and Alsop added two more as did Roger Edwards, player-coach Ollie Smith chipping the ball over the keeper to round it off.

They will secure the title with victory at Firebrands B this weekend.

Marlborough’s relegation from Conference North was confirmed as they were soundly beaten 5-0 by newly-crowned champions City of Bath on Saturday.

The visitors arrived with a perfect record from their 20 matches and started the game in dominant fashion.

Bath took the lead from a short corner and a repeat dose left Marlborough with a significant mountain to climb in the second half.

The home side came out of the traps firing in the second half but their discipline let them down, being reduced to ten men by sin-binnings on two occasions and they conceded three more.

Chippenham ensured their survival in Central One as they thrashed winless hosts Sidmouth & Ottery A 9-2 on the south coast.

A goal from Chris Instone put the visitors ahead before Mark Knight’s double established a commanding lead.

Sidmouth responded, but Luke Morris and Knight, completing his hat-trick, added further goals before the interval.

Instone rounded off a fine move involving Selwyn Widger and Morris for his second and although Sidmouth scored again, James Grantham, Ben Pitman-Jones and a fourth from Knight wrapped up the win.

East Central One champions Wootton Bassett took their goals tally to just nine short of the 200 mark with a 7-2 win over Chippenham A.

Kyle Barnes scored twice, Chris Lambert, Mark Skivington, Mark Turner, Matt Daniell and Tom Ponting also netting.

Kristian Mansfield, Rob Appleby and Ross Pinnuck scored in Bassett A’s 3-2 win over Chippenham B Milind Thapa and Nick Thomson scored for Bassett B in their East Central Two meeting with Chippenham C.

...and so are their ladies

The home side quickly pulled into a two goal lead as Morag Taylor and Debbie Collinson scored with clinical strikes.

Bath rallied and pulled goals back but Devizes were excellent in attack and further goals from Taylor, Millie Church and Becky Meredith secured the title North Division champions Marlborough claimed their eighth away win of the campaign with a 5-4 success.

The title winners made a poor start and soon trailed 2-0.

Alex Crosby-Jones pulled a goal back, but Bristol added a third before half time.

Marlborough, unbeaten since before Christmas, upped their efforts and Kate Batty reduced arrears before Crosby-Jones equalised.

Batty’s second took her side into the lead for the first time, but Bristol were not done and levelled at 4-4.

With only seconds left, Clare Griffiths long ball was picked up by Crosby Jones, who side stepped the defence to fire home the winner.
