JON Guthrie has secured his future at Crewe Alexandra after signing a new two-year contract, with the option of a third year, with the League One club this week.

The 21-year-old, from Milton Lilbourne, has made 17 appearances for the Railwaymen this season and has started at left-back in Crewe's last eleven matches, including Tuesday night's 3-1 loss to Notts County.

Guthrie signed an 18-month contract at Gresty Road after making a sensational switch from Sydenhams League Pewsey Vale in February 2012 and in May last year, the defender penned another one-year deal.

Guthrie told Crewe's official website: "I'm delighted. Now I can just fully focus on making sure we're still in this league next year, so I'm really happy with it and that it's done.

"It's nice to get it over and done with; it's just good that I can focus on my football.

"It's always good to get it sorted before the end of the season so I don't have to worry about it as much. I'm really pleased with it.

"There was no hesitancy at all to sign, this is the right club for me. They plucked me for non-league football so I owe it to them, and I love it here anyway so there would be no reason to leave."
