FORMER Chippenham team chief Kevin Snape believes the Allington Field outfit needs to take a “fresh look’’ at their ambitions after he and assistant coach Dale Burn parted company with the club.

Snape was asked to step down from his senior playing chairman’s role while Burn agreed to end his spell at the club who are bottom of National Three South West as the club’s hierarchy review of a campaign that looks likely to end in relegation.

Head coach Danny Thomas is expected to remain as the club prepares for a likely return to South West level rugby next season but Snape hopes the club also review their vision.

“I would be telling lies if I said I wasn’t hurting,’’ said Snape.

“At least 10 of the squad we had last year under Jason Forster haven’t been available to us for various reasons. It’s an amateur club and they don’t pay players and you have to accept that.

“There needs to be a fresh look. Three coaches in four years doesn’t build stability. The vision was to be the first amateur club to reach National Two, but the club has ambitions perhaps above where they should be.’’

Club chairman Ian Beswick said: “We’re very saddened by what we’ve had to do. It’s all because of bad results. Kevin has been a great stalwart of the club and it’s very difficult to ask a volunteer to step down.’’

Thomas added: “You need characters at a club and Dale is a great character, while Kevin, with all his hard work and dedication, will be sorely missed. It’s quite a big upheaval but it’s important we get the right people in place now.’’
