LOUIS Thompson has urged Swindon Town supporters to be the club’s “extra man” as they look to end a spell of horrendous form at Bristol City this weekend.

The Robins have won just one of their last 11 matches in league and cup competitions and their slender hopes of reaching the League One play-offs were dealt a terminal blow by two home defeats in the space of four days - to MK Dons and Wolves - recently.

Thompson and his Town teammates now head to Ashton Gate this afternoon in desperate search of a morale-boosting victory, and he has asked the travelling fans to get behind their side from start to finish.

“Some fans need to be with us and them being with us will give us an extra man in some games when we need it,” he said.

“Football can change and a couple of people were talking about the play-offs and if you look back to the start of the season a lot of people were saying we were relegation candidates.

“We’ve come a long way in that time and picked up a team and put it together quite late, but we’ve played out of our skin in my opinion.”

Town’s recent slump has even caused some sections of support to worry about a late-season relegation dogfight but Thompson is not thinking about that possibility.

“If you put a few wins together and others lose point we will see where we are on May 3, but I don’t really think about relegation and I’m still looking above us,” he said.
