LOUIS Thompson doesn’t believe the rest of the Town squad need any encouragement from either brother Nathan or himself in the lead up to the derby clash with Bristol City tomorrow.

Swindon go to Ashton Gate to face a side who have much improved in recent weeks and are likely to be cheered on by a vocal home crowd, while Town have only won once in 11.

As the two home-grown players in the squad the Thompsons know better than most how much this derby means to the club and its fans but Louis believes his teammates are also well aware.

“Regardless of our run it’s a big game, whether we are top or bottom we want to win,” he said.

“We did them here and they will be looking for revenge and they’re fans will be gunning for us but we’re up for it and we want to win.

“The boys are professional enough to know how important this game is and no matter where they’re from this game is a local derby for the club.

“They’ll feel the passion and I don’t think me or Nathan will need to get them up for it any more, they’ll do that themselves.

“On the day you may need to get into one or two but in training at the moment everyone’s bang on it and giving their best.”

Thompson knows he and his teammates are going to be in for a thorough examination at Ashton Gate but insisted they are all fully prepared.

“We know what to be aware of having played each team once before and we know Bristol City are on a good run, fighting for survival, so for us we need to go and play our own game and at our own tempo,” he said.

“Like we did here we need to keep our heads up if we go one behind because we are a team which can come back and win games.

“Personally I think trying to slow down their possession of the ball is important because they can counter-attack, and we have flair players who can score goals.”
