Storey loan future at Shrews to be decided

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Miles Storey Miles Storey

ON-LOAN Swindon striker Miles Storey believes he is starting to find his feet after completing five games for temporary club Shrewsbury, with the two sides set to decide on the youngster’s immediate future in the next few days.

The 20-year-old has played in all of Shrew’s games since arriving on an initial month’s loan which is due to expire after his new side’s clash with boyhood club Wolves tomorrow.

The Wednesbury-born forward, who had played only 12 times this season for Town before making the move, is still searching for his first Shrewsbury goal but went close to breaking his duck in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Crawley, striking the post.

“I do feel a lot sharper in the last couple of games than I did in maybe the first couple, and it is only going to grow if I am playing,” he said.

“Obviously it has taken a few games to get more in the flow, but I really enjoyed the game on Tuesday especially because I got to open up the legs a bit and use my pace a little bit more.

“But I think that’s just down to the confidence of getting a run in the side and playing the minutes.

“That does give you a major boost mentally more than anything because a footballer is only really as good as how confident he is feeling.

“To have a run in the side and enjoy it, hopefully it is going to start to pay off.”

Town boss Mark Cooper admitted a number of factors relating to both clubs will decide whether Storey’s loan is extended but is pleased to see his young forward getting vital game time.

“With Miles it depends on one or two things which happen but I need to talk to Miles,” he said.

“He’s doing well, although he’s unfortunate not to score a goal just yet, but he’s getting minutes and is looking sharp. If we do bring him back it would be nice to have him back flying.

“If he continues to work hard and takes his opportunities when they come, like he did against Coventry, then he has a big future.”

Bring him back...end of! We need more options and Storey fits that brief perfectly.

Get him back and play him from the start until the end of the season!!! That is the only way to see if he is good enough for STFC....

Quite agree. Nothing to lose now so the best way of assessing him is to play him here - not at Shrewsbury or wherever else.

It's a tricky one this.

loan extension will benefit him if he continues to get a run of games... would also benefit him getting into our starting 11 - but, can you really see Cooper playing 4-4-2 ?

Personally, despite the fans screaming for him to come back - i'd extend his loan to give him a chance to prove himself at this level. Play either N'Guessan or Smith up front - use Barker as backup and maybe use Waldon and let him have a chance.

I'm sure we will start seeing some experimentation in the squad soon given the play-offs are pretty much out of sight - silly not to.

Agree. Do people really rate Storey that highly or is it a question of "we're struggling so he must be an improvement on what we've got"? Cooper talks about Storey having a great future but he's been around a few years now. When is the future going to start? He's not exactly setting the world alight at Shrewsbury.

Don't agree with you on that one Den .Yes he has been around for a long time but he is only 19 and N Thompson took a lot longer to break in to the first team.
Miles has had a bad run o f injuries and he can't be doing bad as the shrews want him for the rest of the season.
