Cooper to assess injured players ahead of City visit

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: Wes Foderingham could return on Saturday Wes Foderingham could return on Saturday

MARK Cooper will have to make late calls on a number of his injured players ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bristol City.

The Town boss hoped to have Wes Foderingham back between the sticks but the keeper is by no means certain to recover from his groin injury in time, meaning Tyrell Belford could continue in goal.

Nathan Byrne was due to have a scan today to assess what Town believe is a nerve injury causing hamstring issues, while Troy Archibald-Henville will be assessed after training tomorrow to decide whether he is fit to return after missing out on Tuesday night.

Jay McEveley could play his second game in a week despite his ongoing knee problems while Nathan Thompson is almost certain to return after being absent from the Wolves game on Tuesday with a groin issue.

“Nathan (Byrne) has been our best player in the last month but he had a scan today which hopefully will bring good news and he is able to play,” Cooper said.

“This is probably the best Jay has felt for a long time so, as long as his knee responds okay then he should be fine.

“There’s no guarantee Wes is going to be fit for Saturday so until we’re given that proposition we will wait and face it then.

“Troy will be assessed tomorrow after and during training.”

For City, former Town defender Aden Flint is absent with a knee injury while Adam El Abd starts a three-game ban following his red card against Peterborough in midweek.

Tyrone Barnett, on loan from Posh, returns to the squad after being barred from facing his parent club.

I seem to remember that during Danny Wilson's tenure we seemed to accumulate lots of injuries such as these, but during the PDC era minor injuries seemed to feature much less. Probably due to the fitness of the players in being able to shrug off injuries easier and quicker .
